The World Justice Forum is the largest international event hosted by the World Justice Project. It is a global gathering at which prominent leaders from all parts of the world and a variety of disciplines come together to articulate how the Rule of Law affects their disciplines and regions and to develop collaborative actions to strengthen the Rule of Law.
Our Action-Oriented Approach

Unlike most conferences, the Forum called on participants to develop and commit to specific follow-up activities. The Forum launched an ambitious process through which leaders from various fields of endeavor are implementing programs involving multiple disciplines to strengthen the Rule of Law. Forum participants worked in breakout sessions organized both by discipline and geographic regions to develop 89 programs with accompanying action plans to strengthen the Rule of Law in communities, countries and regions around the world.
Each action plan spells out a goal, the activities to be conducted, the resources called for, and an initial budget. All action plans are based on multidisciplinary collaboration.
A common theme across multiple regions of the world is the need to build understanding and appreciation of the Rule of Law.
The diverse plans encompass such matters as reducing corruption, strengthening the rights of women and of workers, placing greater resources at the disposal of judges, freeing arts from political control, and strengthening compliance with environmental protection laws.
Forum participants have committed to taking steps to advance their action plans over the coming 12 to 18 months.
Plenary and smaller sessions focused on the importance of the Rule of Law to such topics as human rights, environmental protection, conflict mitigation, and property rights. Additional sessions focused on access to justice, the scholarship supported by the WJP and the presentation of the Rule of Law Index. The Index and preliminary results from its pilot field testing were presented in a session chaired by Dr. Sam Muller, Director of the Hague Institute for the Internationalization of Law.
