The intern will provide administrative support for the overall development of the Rule of Law Index. Much of the intern work will include organizational work in Microsoft Excel and Word; assisting in editing and proof reading documents; internet research; and other office and logistical support duties.
One of the key objectives of the WJP is the creation of a Rule of Law Index to assess countries' adherence to the rule of law. The Index aims to provide government leaders, business leaders, NGOs and civil society with information that enables them to assess and strengthen adherence to the rule of law. The Index will be administered on a periodic basis to enable policy makers, advocates for reform and risk managers to measure incremental change over time.
The "rule of law" is a frequently used term which is rarely defined. Many organizations have done important work measuring aspects of the rule of law, but few attempts have been made to comprehensively measure adherence to it. Developing a definition and an assessment tool is critically important because the rule of law is the platform for communities of opportunity and equity and is essential to addressing the world's most persistent and harmful ills. For this reason, the World Justice Project is examining methodological issues related to measuring the rule of law and is developing a Rule of Law Index. The WJP will prepare a Rule of Law Index Report that describes its findings in countries where the Index is administered. The report will also provide analysis that will guide efforts to strengthen the rule of law in the country in question.
This internship is open to undergraduates with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. The candidate should be majoring in one of the social sciences. Applicants with international experience and foreign language skills are preferred.
